about

In my family there were traditionally two honorable, honest and obvious career choices. A coal miner or truck driver. In the case of my uncles and grandfather, they were both. One of the largest trucking companies in the area I grew up in was owned by my childhood best friend’s family which was saddled between the american south and the midwest. For anyone who thinks all truck drivers have the same musical taste, you are mistaken. Old country, modern country, metal, rap, hip hop, blues and classic rock are are all enjoyed or endured during long, lonely hours spent in interstate isolation. Who knows whats going on inside that cab?To be honest, the songs on “Melancholy Truckers of Death” were not chosen methodically, but came about in random ways. By watching an episode of “The Marty Stuart Show” for example. Or hearing a classic rock song in a bowling alley. Or being reminded of an old song on the car radio or in a grocery store that could be re-interpreted. The songs chose us and we connected with them in some way. The one original we wrote on the record “Truck stop Samaritan” was inspired by a documentary about truck stop prostitution that my wife, Kat and I watched and afterwords she came up with a fictional story for the lyrics loosely based around that. But mostly, this is a record of covers that span a variety of musical genres and generations that we have mutated and translated and have made them our own. My truck driving, coal mining grandfather recently passed away and these songs are for him and for us and hopefully for you. -Michael Aryn

Palodine are a whirling dervish of a two-piece. Incisive lyricism, excellent and tasteful acoustic tones and percussion pushing and pulling against one another. Their records sound lush and full. Overall, a class act. They were great live, too! -Justin Payne

Usually I do not like this style, but something inside me prompted me that It was important to listen to this work- And I did not regret it. "Melancholy Truckers of Death" is dark Americana and country by US group Palodine. It is not easy material, and includes covers of rockers and country singers. Female vocals with an atmospheric wild west influence. It sounds very good, like dirty, worn faded jeans and dresses. And they made their versions of the songs well. The genre is interesting-a decadent phenomenon of southern gothic American culture and draws inspiration from there. - Synthema.ru (Russia)

"Who, gentlemen, who of you today has a cursed hangover, feels blues in the soul, the pain of existence, body ache, wanting only in a state of complete lethargy and apathy to listen to music that soothes all of these pains? Palodine has often served me well in such moments.
I do not even remember in what circumstances I was in over the centuries ago, but it is irrelevant. Since (the album) Garden of Deceit, they have been with me, sometimes escaping to the shadow, but always returning when my soul calls them back.
Tags are folk, desert rock, southern rock, country, but with the addition of a really deep, though equally velvety, female vocal. All its simplicity and commonness has something fantastic, fairy-like, even magical.
Every album is worth checking out. EVERY ONE."- Masterful Magazine
